Coaching is a developmental process that focuses on growth.

Expressive arts is a creative process of using the visual arts, movement, music, writing, sound, and improvisation in a safe and supportive setting to foster personal and group growth. There is no artistic training needed. Expressive arts-based learning is exciting and fun and has been used by many organizations.

Creative Living
The goals of Creative Living coaching are to help clients identify what matters most to them, learn how to live and work creatively, and learn how to experience greater meaning in work and life. Expressive arts-based learning (see below for definition)* is used to foster creativity.

Candor and Conflict
Clients learn how to be authentic and candid, yet diplomatic, in situations and relationships that may involve stress and conflict.  The client selects real-life situations that may involve a client, direct report, co-worker, key stakeholder, or family member and practices new communication and conflict resolution skills in our coaching session.

Life Transitions
Life transitions, such as birth of a child, graduation, career change, promotion, retirement, or relocation, invite (and sometimes require) giving conscious attention to a specific change in one’s life. Coaching can help at such times by developing and implementing a plan for the transition.

Leadership Development
Frequently, coaching focuses on specific leadership skills that support an organization’s talent and leadership competency model. Many companies identify “high potential” leaders and request that the leader select a strength to build upon and a blind spot or challenge to improve. The leadership goals are usually selected from the company’s leadership competency model. Examples of leadership competencies include adapting to change, building relationships, communication, candor, creativity, developing and coaching others, emotional intelligence, managing change, and developing a collaborative culture.

Executive Coaching
When appropriate, I gather stakeholder input through a 360-degree feedback process, or interviews, or both, to detect areas in a client’s professional life that need strengthening.  I help my clients to identify and develop their strengths, understand their blind spots, and reduce behaviors that diminish effectiveness.

Coaching Learning Circles
Several clients may work together in a “coaching learning circle,” using processes customized for the group or the organization. Creative techniques used to foster understanding, learning, and growth include emotional intelligence skills, creativity, candor and conflict, leadership development, work-life balance, peer mentoring, building relationships, and understanding diversity and interpersonal style differences.

Team-Building
To improve their synergy, interaction, and outcomes, I help teams identify goals and implement an action plan that will strengthen the team’s results. Examples of team goals are responding to organizational change, strengthening team communication and candor, facilitating innovation sessions, developing a collective project vision, understanding  interpersonal style differences.
